Is Balloon Sinuplasty Right for You?

You’ve probably heard us mention Balloon Sinuplasty more than once, but why should YOU consider it? Well, let’s go over what it is, how it works, and what the benefits are. It has helped many of our patients with sinus issues that they've struggled with for years. So, if you have sinus infections that keep coming back, this may be an option for you.

What it is:

Balloon Sinuplasty is a fairly new in-office procedure used to treat chronic sinusitis and other sinus issues. It is minimally invasive, the recovery time is short, and the results are long-lasting.

How it works:

Guided by a small light and camera, your ENT inserts a small balloon catheter into your nasal passage. Then the balloon is inflated, enlarging the openings in your sinuses. The procedure takes less than an hour and requires no bone cutting or tissue removal. While some patients report tenderness for a day or two, there is generally little to no pain. Also, patients are nearly completely recovered in 24-48 hours. Full recovery one takes about a week. You’ll probably want to avoid long runs and heavy yard work during that recovery week so that you don’t irritate your sinuses, but relaxing on the sofa does sound too bad. Right?

Benefits:

Balloon Sinuplasty is proving to be an effective, long-term remedy for a whole range of sinus issues. Why? Because it helps the sinuses drain when they need to. Is it permanent? Possibly, it’s still a recently developed procedure, so the data is still new. What we do know is that it’s helping patients find relief without relying on medications. Quite simply, it’s an effective way for you to start breathing better.
